Dear Parents and Guardians,

Over the past few years, parents of our students have become increasingly aware of the high stakes consequences associated with the ELA and Mathematics tests for 3rd through 8th grade children. Last year, a number of Baldwin parents opted to “refuse” the 3-8 state tests for their children.

While it would be inappropriate for an individual teacher to advise a parent on “opting-out” of the state tests, we hope that you can use this informational letter to help you form your own decision regarding your child’s educational experience. Please refer to the

"Gov. Walker, when you compared peaceful protestors to radical terrorists, you disrespected the service and sacrifice of the men and women who serve in our armed forces, and you insulted the citizens of Wisconsin who stood up to take part in our democracy.

As a veteran of the Iraq War and one of those protestors, I am asking you to publicly apologize for your callous and dishonorable remarks."

As an educator in a public school, I want to express my opposition to the Governor’s proposals for public education.  These proposals reflect a “bigfoot” approach – an attempt to centralize power over public education in Albany and strip away local control from parents and their local, democratically elected school boards. 


Governor Cuomo’s billionaire agenda is the wrong conversation for 2015.  It’s time for serious discussions about the real issues:  the devastating impact of poverty on student achievement
