WHY REFUSE?

Here are the MAJOR REASONS why Parents are saying - I REFUSE!
- Because these standardized tests have no value for our children. All you see if a number (1-4). The results are NEVER given to school districts or to parents - so there is NO information at all on how your child actually did on test, what they learned, where their strengths are, or where they need improvement. Teachers are not able to use this information to help current or future student.
- Because the heavy emphasis on teaching to the test denies our children opportunities for authentic learning. Throughout the school year, hundreds of hours are spent preparing for these etsts while valuable subjects such as music, physical education, science, and art are being cut down or completely discontinued.
- Because these tests are flawed. There can be several correct answers to the same question. The questions are inappropriate for the ages and developmental levels of the students.
- Because these tests do not affect your child's classroom grades or any services your child receives.
- Because these tests are being used to collect a staggering amount of detailed data on your children without your consent. New York State Education Department my decide to entrust this information to a third party vendor - a company that cannot guarantee that your child's data will be secure.
As the parent, you have the right to require that your child is given appropriate tests that measure true learning.
You can refuse to allow your child to take flawed, meaningless test.
